Hitachi releases WiFi TagsHitachi developed WiFi tags called Air Location Tags. They are compatible with IEEE802.11b and their maximum reading range is about 100 meters. Their batteries will last for five years ( assuming 7 minutes communication/day). Each tag may cost 10,000 JPY (approx $92) – appears to be rather expensive.
