Radio Posters

Last fall, DNP (Dai Nippon Printing) was testing their Radio Poster system at a sightseeing spot in Tohoku region in Japan. (link: in Japanese)This system uses RFID'd straps attached to users mobile phones. RFID readers embedded in posters read the tags and the system delivers relevant information/services.

Two months after the release of wallet phones, DNP is now starting a new business based on the idea of Radio Posters. The compnay will soon start an ASP service for event/promotion organizers so they can easily build/tailor the Radio Poster system to suit thir needs.

The company expects about $9M sales in 2006.

I don't know if the company intends to roll out this service overseas but it seems the technology/idea doesn't rely much on the network infrastructure and the hardware devices that are only available in Japan.
