RFID in Japan

A Taiwanese company called A4Tech unveiled a battery-free wireless mouse at this week's WPC Expo 2004 in Tokyo.

The mouse is used together with a special mouse pad called RFID-pad that wirelessly powers the mouse much like an RFID reader that powers nearby passive RFID tags.

To me, this concept of powering things by pads is interesting. Electronic carpets (they are quite popular in Japan) should perhaps power Roombas and AIBOs.
