Korean U-City Update

The Korea Herald has an article titled "Government, companies gather for U-City Project." It's dated 2004.11.29 and written by Kim Tong-hyung. (Unfortunately, it seems that the article is available only for premium subscribers of The Korea Herald. )

This project will likely be a collaborative effort by goverment agencies (the Ministry of Information and Communication and the Ministry of Construction and Transportation) and large companies; and its objective is to create environments in cities where residents can enjoy access to high-speed networks and advanced information services regardless of location through a ubiquitous computing network.

To me, this project appears to be more about integration of technology into reality of urban life rather than merely demonstrating 'sexy' technologies. In any case, RFID seems highly relevant:

The project is also seen as critical in providing the infrastructure and generating a larger service market for next-generation communication technologies, such as sensor-based computing, radio-frequency identification applications, the broadband convergence network and mobile Internet, among others.
