"Japan Offers ISO a Gen 2 Alternative"

It's called Hibiki Proposal.

A consortium of Japanese companies proposes its own UHF specification, likened to a scaled-down version EPC Gen 2, for candidacy as an ISO standard.

I don't know how it might be related to "Hibiki Project," which is a goverment-led project for developing 5 yen (approx 5 cents) RFID tags by the summer of 2006.
