RFID Bolts + Digital Torque WrenchKRD Corporation in the city of Zama (Kanagawa Prefecture) developed RFID bolts. Using special digital torque wrenches, one can maintain records about each bolt: when it was fastened and how much force was applied while fastening, etc. Potential application areas include airplane assembling factories where lots of parts and bolts are used since RFID bolts may make be used to make sure that all bolts are fastened.
High frequency (13.56MHz) RFID tags are embedded inside bolts rather than attaching them on the surface of bolts. As a backup, the RFID tags' ID numbers are engraved on bolts with laser. It costs 500 JPY (US$4.5) for each bolt when you order 5,000 bolts.
