New Antenna Doubles Mu-Chip's read rangeHitachi developed a new antenna that increases the read range of mu-Chip tags up to 70 cm. Currently, their read range is 30cm. The antenna is embedded in a 76mm x 62mm thin label -- it can increase the read range because it is directional. There's no need to connect the chip and the antenna electrically. Just paste existing mu-chip tags to the thin label. The price could be about 10 Japanese yen each for the order of 1 million tags. The company is aiming at commercializing it by March 2006.
