Government Gathering Information about Systems that increase security for kids

There have been numerous cases of using RFID tags to monitor school kids in Japan (e.g., check this link.) Many seem to believe such systems provide parents with peace of mind and kids with safety.

Nikkei RFID Technology recently reported that Japanese Ministry of Public Management, Home, Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications (Soumu-Sho) is currently gathering information about "systems for securing kids safety using ubiquitous network technologies." They are interested in (1) cases of system developments at regular schools and cram schools, and (2) cases and trends of related products and services by businesses and manufacturers.

Don't know what they'll do with the gathered information -- I'll keep an eye on anything that might come up with this interesting project by the government.
