Last December, an RFID-chipped MP3 player (MobiBlu DAH-1800T) hit the market in Korea. It can be used to pay fares on public buses and subways. Users can charge up to 70,000 won on the MP3 player at ticket windows of subway stations or newsstands as is done with regular prepaid smart cards.
This was reported in an article on Korea Times in December.
The article also reports on people's (rather surprising) existing practice:
Posted by konomi at March 4, 2006 08:58 PM | TrackBackAlso, people have been implanting the RFID chip from smart cards to their own portable gadgets or handbags, by melting the plastic cover of the cards with acid liquid and taking out the chipset.
