Sherelog: Suica Mashup

Posted on WMMNA.

Sherelog is a system that fetches data from Suica (an RFID train pass) and visualizes personal train-ride records on a large public map (or Google Map). Koutaro Hashimoto, Yasuhiro Suzuki, Toshio Iwai, Michitaka Hirose showed this system at the Japan Media Arts Festival earlier this month.

Cool.

Artists Burnish RFID's Image

Wired reported on artists using RFID as media for artistic expression.

Other artists in the United States and Europe are adding RFID to their palettes as well. They're drawing hip crowds as well as the attention of the RFID industry, which hopes to gain some good publicity for its controversial tracking technology.

it's interesting how people do different things in different cultural context with new technologies. I hear a lot about unique experiments in business settings in Japan but don't hear much about artists using RFID so far... wait, there are some, I just remembered moo-pong. well, another thing is, it appears to me that people who implanted RFID chips under their skins are mostly in Western countries.
